Our Powder Coating Steps

Step 1: Debris Removal

The process of powder coating begins with surface preparation, which is critical to achieving a flawless finish. Our skilled technicians meticulously clean and prepare the metal surface by removing any contaminants, rust, or old finishes. This step ensures maximum adhesion and guarantees a long-lasting coating.

Step 2: Hanging

After the sand blasting process, each object is placed onto our facility guiding rails. Our guiding rail, which is over 400 feet long and wraps through our entire facility, allows us to safely slide the metal structures through the next 5 steps of the powder coating process.

Step 3: Washing

After the sand blasting and hand sanding processes, each object must be pressure washed. Since powder coating a metal surface with any sand or other debris on it could have very negative effects on the longevity of the life of the finished coating, this stage is incredibly important. Through a proper top-down spray technique by a trained professional, we ensure that each object is thoroughly cleaned.

Step 4: Drying

An often overlooked nuance to the powder coating process is the importance of proper drying. Our drying process includes a "surface-area X water amount" calculation to decide how long it will take for the object to fully dry in one of our state of the art ovens.

Step 5: Coating

Once the preparation is complete, we apply the powder coating using specialized equipment. The powder is charged with an electrostatic charge, which attracts it to the metal surface for an even and controlled application. This technique allows us to achieve a uniform coating thickness, even on complex shapes and hard-to-reach areas.

Step 6: Curing

After the powder is applied, the coated item is transferred to a curing oven, where it undergoes a carefully controlled heating process. During this curing stage, the powder particles melt and chemically react, creating a strong bond and forming the final protective finish. The curing process ensures that the coating is fully cured and hardened, providing superior durability and resistance.

Step 7: Cooling

Finally, with an entirely indoor operating facility, we have the ability to maintain the perfect cooling temperature. This will make sure that your powder coating services do not just start well, but they finish well also.
